Pros and Cons of a Smart Watch

Posted on 20 May 2022

Nowadays it’s hard to image a life without a smart watch. We see them everywhere – advertised on billboards or TV, worn by celebrities and purchased by the most recognisable figures. It’s no wonder, however, that a smart watch has gained its popularity so quickly and, one could even say, effortlessly. After all, it’s a useful gadget that accompanies you everywhere you go. More than that, it just looks so stylish and has so many functions. It would be a shame not to put it to use! However, there is a question that remains unanswered: which one is better – a smart watch or a traditional watch? Let’s explore the pros and cons of a smart watch, and decide together whether it’s worth your money or not.

First and foremost, the information you get from the smart watch. It’s amazing what functions you can discover if you just search through your newly bought smart watch. We’re talking blood pressure, oxygen levels, sleep tracker, pedometer, activity tracker – and that’s just to name a few! It’s like carrying a little phone but without it taking up pretty much any space – everything is there, ready for you, on your wrist!

This brings us to the next point – message and call notifications. Nowadays you don’t even need to have your phone near you to get those. You can be relaxing downstairs, watching your favourite TV show and you phone could be in your bedroom. Yet if somebody calls you or if you receive a message, you will be instantly notified about this. With some models of smart watches, you can even answer those phone calls and reply to those messages – this is the beauty of modern technology. And let’s be honest, this is pretty handy, isn’t it?

Another thing worth mentioning here is the attractiveness of a smart watch. They usually have a sleek design and look very chic on your wrist. Moreover, you can change the faces of your watch every day, so you won’t get bored of the same screen display. You can play with designs, making them more creative, intuitive and tailored to your personal needs. Now, you wouldn’t be able to do that with a traditional watch, would you?

"Unlike diamonds, watches were practical. They were for people on the run, people with appointments to keep and schedules to meet."

Now onto the cons of owning a smart watch. Let’s tackle the biggest and probably the most important one here – the battery. With traditional watches the battery holds up for weeks or even months! You don’t have to worry about constantly charging it or carrying the charger with you at all times. That’s another one of the disadvantages of owning a smart watch – you need to make sure you have that charger handy when you need it. It might be plug and a cable or even a wireless charging device, but that’s an extra accessory you need to have in your backpack or purse. Or, if you’re happy with it, you can just let your smart watch die and charge it when you get a minute. That is, of course, if you don’t mind wearing a watch that doesn’t even show you time. The choice is yours.

Finally, let’s talk about distractions. Now, as we mentioned, smart watches have many useful functions but what if those functions turn into something annoying? Notifications, for instance. You can get those when you’re resting and want to have some time away from social media or even when you’re sleeping – either way – it’s no good! Thankfully, however, those can be turned off and you can enjoy the rest of the smart watch functions without any interruptions which is the whole point of a smart watch. After all, it’s you who has a complete control over it, not the other way around.

As you can see, there are multiple pros and cons when it comes to owning a smart watch. Nonetheless, it’s safe to say that after all of this, the smart watch beats the traditional watch by just a little. It’s easy to use, it has many great functions and it lets you to stay connected to the world. How amazing is that? It’s definitely not something you can get with a regular watch.
